Dr. Jimmy Y Yumnam is currently teaching as Assitant Professor at Department of Botany, Cotton University since 2015. He did his B.Sc in Botany Honours (2001/2003) from D.M. College of Science, Imphal (Manipur University). He did his M. Sc in Botany with specialization in Forest Ecology and Plant Pathology (2005) from D.S.B Campus, Nainital, Kumaun University, Nainital. He got his Ph.D (2012) from NERIST, Nirjuli. He has research experiences from BSI, Eastern Circle, Shillong; NESAC, Barapani; and ICAR NER, Barapani.
He is a recipient of Elangbam Iboton Singh Memorial Gold Medal for securing First Class First position in B.Sc. Hons (Botany), 2001 (2003) examination of Manipur University. (Award announced in December 2003). He topped D.S.B. campus in M.sc Botany, 2005 examination of Kumaun University. He is a recipient of the prestigious Schlich Prize of Indian Forester for the year 2009 for the research paper entitle “Status and distribution pattern of Rhododendron species in temperate and sub-alpine hill ranges of Mount Esii and surrounding in Manipur and Nagaland, India” (Published in July, 2009 issue). (Award announced in February 2011).
His area of interest is Plant Ecology; Ethno-botany; Biodiversity and Conservation; GIS and RS; and Tissue Culture.
